Sail, Swim, Ride, Wander repeat.

Nothing needs to be over-planned. The island has its own way of filling the days.

Island days your way.

Sail, swim, breathe, wander, ride the wind, walk the old streets, have a massage, follow the tide, or stay exactly where you are. The Cabanas is not about filling every hour. It is about letting the island offer what you need.

12km of Open Sand Barefoot for Miles

The Cabanas sits on a wild, open stretch of beach, with nearly 12km of sand to wander, barefoot mornings, long quiet afternoons, shells, birds, waves, and the rare feeling of having space all around you.

Waterskiing on calm seas at golden hour

For the Water-Lovers

Wakeboard, kneeboard, waterski, paddleboard, swim, or simply play in the shallows. Some days are calm and glassy, others belong to the wind, we help you find the right moment, the right tide, and the right way to be on the water.

Lamu Town & Shela

Spend a morning in Lamu Town among carved doors, coral walls, donkeys, markets and the layered history of the old Swahili coast. Or wander through Shela, a little more bohemian, a little more relaxed, with stone lanes, small shops, sea air, and a rhythm of its own.

Long table set for dinner

Below the Surface

From December to March, when the sea is at its calmest and clearest, snorkelling becomes one of the loveliest ways to spend a morning. Slip into warm water, look for reef fish and coral life, and let the day begin slowly — mask on, sun above, boat nearby, and the coast quiet around you.

Yoga on the deck

Yoga, breathwork, restore

Begin and the day with yoga in the studio, add breathwork, meditation, quiet movement, or a massage when you need deeper rest. Nothing is forced or over-scheduled — just simple, grounding practices, there when you want to slow down and come back to yourself.

Fire pit under a full moon

Fire, music & moon

Most evenings end at the fire pit. Sometimes a guitar. Sometimes a long conversation. Or perhaps a movie under the stars. Always the moon, always the tide, and a quiet dip in the phosphorescence.

Built by hand. Sailed by the wind.

Our wooden dhow, Kilindini, was built in our local village, Kipungani, by hands that understand these waters. She carries the authentic charm of an old coastal design; traditional, beautiful, and proven by generations of sailing along the Lamu coast. She moves with the rhythm of the island: out for a sail, a swim, a slow afternoon on the water, or sunset cocktails as the light softens and the sea turns gold. A dhow trip here is less of an excursion and more of a feeling: wind, wood, water, and the quiet magic of Lamu.

The people who make the magic.

The Cabanas is shaped every day by the people who care for it; cooking, hosting, sailing, gardening, building, cleaning, repairing, laughing, noticing, and making guests feel genuinely at home.

asante sana — thank you, all of you.

Choose your version of Lamu.

The Slow Stay. Two of you. A book, a swim, a long lunch, repeat. Most guests book five nights and wish for seven.

The Family Week. Adjoining cabanas, dhow picnics, sandcastles, stories.

The Safari Comedown. After the Mara dust — soft sheets, bare feet, an ocean and absolutely nothing to chase. Three to five nights does it.

The Exclusive Takeover. All seven cabanas. Your people. A wedding, a milestone, a family week. We design these privately.
